When I was nine, ten, I was super young, but I installed a program on my computer so I could start producing music. I just started messing around. Then, after a couple of years, I got better. I actually learned some tricks, so I knew what I was doing instead of just messing.

Garrix was born in the village of Amstelveen, near Amsterdam. Since four years the boy became interested in music and began to take lessons of playing the guitar. Four years later Martin had seen Tiësto's performance at the Olympic Games in Athens and understood that he wanted to become a DJ.

He participated in some DJ competitions in holland and got success in winning.

When I come up with a melody in my head, it could be anywhere: in the shower, on the plane, in bed - often when I'm on the go. I'll record it on my phone with my own voice, humming. When I get to the studio, I check which melodies work.

MUSIC RECORDS

Martin Garrix's career as an Electronic Dance Music (EDM) star began at 14, when he served as a disc jockey at his high school dance.

At the beginning of 2000, Martin was noticed by the idol of the childhood - Tiësto. The man liked the track "Torrent" (with Sidney Samson) composed by the young man, and he recorded it under his label.

After meeting Tiësto and having him as a mentor, he released his first tracks, "BFAM" (with Julian Jordan) and "Just Some Loops" (with TV Noise).
Later he signed a record deal with dance label Spinnin' Records in 2012, releasing "Error 404", a collaboration with Dutch DJ Jay Hardway in 2013.

Martin's biography had abruptly changed as he got success when he released as a digital download on 17 June 2013 on iTunes his solo instrumental track "Animals".

The track "Animals" quickly became popular within the EDM culture, leading to Garrix becoming the youngest producer to ever have a song reach number one on the electronic music store Beatport. The track was a commercial success, reaching the top ten or topping on a number of electronic music charts, topping singles charts in the United Kingdom, French-speaking Switzerland and Belgium, and in the United States reaching number 21 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 1 on the Dance chart. He appeared on DJ Magazine's top 100 DJs list in 2013 as a new entry at number 40.

It is considered one of the most popular big room house songs of all-time, along with "Epic" by Sandro Silva and Quintino, "Spaceman" by Hardwell, "Tsunami" by Dvbbs and Borgeous and "Tremor" by Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike.

When 'Animals' released, I still had one year left in school, so it was, like, super weird. I had number one in the U.K., and I would still go to school five days a week. They made, like, a schedule when I could tour and when I had to be home for tests. But my team made it happen. My parents, they helped as well.

His second collaboration with Hardway, 'Wizard' was released on 2 December 2013. The song was later used in the film 'Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb (2014)'. In early 2014, he headlined the'Ultra Music Festival' for the first time. On February 6, 2015, he released his first progressive house track 'Forbidden Voices', a distinct departure from his usual big room sound. In the same month he worked with Usher on the single 'Don't Look Down'. He played the song 'Rewind Repeat It' featuring Ed Sheeran at the Ultra Music Festival in 2015 in Miami.

2015: Collaborations and Spinnin' contract termination

In 2015, Garrix experimented with progressive house and started producing progressive tracks aside from his signature big room sound.  His exit from 'Spinnin' Records' over a contention about the ownership of his music.

The Story Of 'Music Box': collaboration between Hardwell & Martin Garrix

The story behind this is an interesting one. First played at Tomorrowland 2014, resulting into a track by 2 of the brightest minds in the scene; Robbert van de Corput & Martijn Garritsen. This was a collaboration everyone was asking for, with more than 1 artwork and 2 names.

How did this highly anticipated track delay and eventually shelved off? Today we'll find out, on this week's article about 'Music Box'.

The track starts with turning the knob of a carousel, triggering the beautiful 1st break as if we've opened it. It's this part of the track that makes it very unique EVEN with today's standards. The drop wasn't uncommon but a powerful one nonetheless, filled with energy to keep the crowd jumping throughout the whole track. The 2nd break has in the same form as the 1st one, however, this time Martin added an electric guitar chord which made it even more exciting and enthusiastic to keep on listening to the track.

Several years went by since it leaked and still no word on the official release. Finally, Hardwell did a Reddit Q&A a month before Ultra Miami 2017, clearing up the speculations of 'Music Box', that it has indeed been canceled. Yet, he still teased a possible collaboration in the future. There were more rumors suggesting the track to be released both on Spinnin' and Revealed. After Martin's departure from Spinnin' and in fact, big room house, the whole unreleased discography of IDs will remain unreleased forever.
